Cech to consider his Albion future

Tuesday 10th November 2009, 11:31AM GMT.

WBA V PLYMOUTH 15 EB 12Albion midfielder Marek Cech has admitted to new World Cup fears after losing his place – and cast fresh doubt over his future at the club.

The Slovakia international is concerned he will miss out on next summer’s World Cup finals unless he finds a way back into the Baggies’ first team.

Cech, who has lost his place in recent weeks after starting the season in the team, revealed he plans to discuss his future with boss Roberto Di Matteo in January if still out of favour.

He said: “I understand that sometimes you don’t play all of the games and I know that this is a long season. We will see how it pans out for me. It’s not good for me to be sat on the bench, because I want to play in the World Cup.”

Cech has figured in every recent Slovakia squad but is on the fringes of the first team and fears a shortage of regular club football could see him lose his international place.

He said: “If I don’t play I don’t go to the World Cup so I’m not satisfied. If it continues like this then I will think about things.

“Last year I had this and I was frustrated. This year it started very well but now it’s not so good – if it’s still like this in January then I will have to think about it.

“I have spoken to the manager about it. We’ve discussed it and we will see how things work out.”

Cech has now linked up with Slovakia for their friendlies this week against the United States and Gonzalo Jara’s Chile.

But the 26-year-old played a part as a substitute as the Baggies beat Leicester 2-1 at the Walkers Stadium on Saturday to stay in the Championship’s top two.

The former Porto man said: “Every win away from our ground is very good and important. We needed three points because of how close it is.

“We needed to create a gap. It’s looking harder for the opponents to catch us now and we need to keep increasing that.”

Cech has started 10 times for Albion this season, scoring twice in the 3-1 home win against Plymouth.

Sadly, like Koren, he isn`t good enough to get in the team at the moment. But also like Koren, he is the sort of player who gives us good quality strength in depth. I don`t envy RDM having to sort it all out.

I have to say I feel very sorry for Marek at the moment.

He had a very good start tot he campaign and then got injured, which in turn, lost his place for him.

I have to say I think Roberto needs to be very careful in the coming weeks with the fringe players, and against the mid-table and bottom placed sides needs to utilise his squad to the maximum to save any major rocking of the ship come January.

At the end of the day, he wants to go to the World Cup and quite rightly so, it will probably be his only ever chance playing for a small country like Slovakia.

Hopefully you will get a chance soon Marek, keep smiling and do what you do best when you get that chance when it comes along.

Sorry Cech but i personally dont think your good enough for our 1st team, you cant rely on 1 good performance, you have to do it week in week out,so stop trying to rock the boat wait for your chance and show everyone that you deserve your place,if you don’t/cant then you cant moan about it,Roko is in a different position to you as he is always played out of position so you cant really blame him in wanting 1st team football……………BOING BOING

These players make me laugh!! He made the Slovakia side that played against England without hardly having a kick for Albion. Slovakia have to great a great pool of players to pick from so to use he wont go to the world cup as an excuse is beyond me!!.

It’s a bit childish to bring out the old world cup excuse every time he fails to make the first team… and its getting a bit boring.

I have sympathy because he was playing well when he got injured and scored a couple of good goals too – but other players have siezed the opportunity when it came and he will have to wait to get back in.

I actually think he will be a first 11 regular again as he has real class on the pitch – he just needs to show a bit off the the pitch too !!

It seems to me that a lot of what happens in football is down to the ego of players who think they are bigger than their club and , in some cases of top premier league players, bigger than the game itself. I would like to know exactly what happened with the Albion youngster who has been sentback from his loan spell at Shrewsbury . How nice it would be to see players show a little humility and modesty, two rare characteristics indeed in the mad world of modern football.

I agree with No1 and 2. At least the bloke wants to play for his money. We’ve had a few over the years who couldn’t even remember the kick-off time. We are, whichever way you look at it, in the 2nd Division and posh names for this league don’t alter that, so an International just might think he ought to be good enough to get in the team, especially in so young a team. As I said before, it’s good for us as supporters to know what a bench we have, but you can’t beat playing!

If you read the the official story on the WBA site.It seems as if the express and dingle have put there slant on it.

We know that Cech and Koren are concerned about there international prospects but they should remember who pays their wages every month . It’s up to both of them to prove to the manager that they are good enough to be in the team. There will be ample opportunity over the December and New Year period when we have so many games.

I agree that Cech and Roko are good players but it’s not good for the team if they keep moaning everytime that they don’t play.

Cech’s started 10 games out of 16 RDM has to choose the best players that he thinks will do the job on the day, they must learn to be patient their turn will come.

If we are going to have players feeling unsettled then no matter how good they are it’s time to get rid, before they start unssettling the rest of the squad.

    C’mon you Baggies !!!!!!!!!!!!
