Two gunmen were today facing life in jail for the gangland shooting of an innocent father in a Wolverhampton pub.

A jury found Ricardo Davie and Jason Purkiss, both part of the notorious West Bromwich-based Raiders crew, guilty of attempting to murder Winston Anglin in the Waggon & Horses pub.

The pair blasted the 47-year-old four times in the basement of the pub on Cannock Road, Park Village, after one of their gang members was “disrespected” by being asked to put out his cigarette.

Purkiss, 31, of Priory Street, Dudley, and 18-year-old Davie, of St Augustines Road, Edgbaston, shot Mr Anglin with a .44 revolver and a Second World War Luger gun on July 20 last year. It can be revealed today the Luger had already been used in two shootings in Moss Side in Manchester.

Purkiss and Davie were convicted at Birmingham Crown Court yesterday after three days of deliberation by the jury. Adjourning sentencing until next month, trial judge Mr Justice Hickinbottom warned the men: “You will be spending many years in custody.”

Davie and Purkiss shook their heads as the jury returned majority guilty verdicts after the five-week trial.
