A tuk-tuk taxi service between two pubs has won a reprieve after a landlord was granted a licence for the vehicle.

Paul Glover-Winfield is now looking for a driver to get the tuk-tuk, a small south-east Asian motor vehicle, back on the road.

The service was set up in Bewdley to run passengers between the Cock and Magpie, in Severnside North, and the Hop Pole Inn, in Cleobury Road.

But Mr Glover-Winfield was forced to take it off the road after Wyre Forest District Council said he could not provide the service without a private hire licence.

He first set up the service due a lack of parking at the Hop Pole Inn, which is run by his 25-year-old daughter Emma Passey.

But despite concerns over the vehicle’s engine power, members of Wyre Forest District Council’s licensing and environment committee decided to grant it a licence.

The tuk-tuk will be able to run between the two pubs until April next year when a new application will have to be submitted.

Mrs Passey said staff were over-the-moon the service between the two pubs could run again as planned.

“It could have gone either way to be honest and we were concerned it would be rejected,” she said.
