No extra inspiration for skipper
Friday 6th November 2009, 9:15AM GMT.
Stourbridge captain Craig Slater insists his troops don’t need any extra inspiration against Walsall in the FA Cup.
It is the first time Gary Hackett’s men have reached the first round proper tomorrow and Slater insists the Glassboys are ready.
The defender said: “I don’t really get the group together, I might do Saturday but I don’t want to change anything I’ve done in the past.
“I normally go around the lads individually, tell them what their best asset is and make sure they try and do it from the start.
“I do have a good shout at them if they need it, but if everything is going well I don’t mind tagging along and enjoying it.”
Slater admits he hasn’t dished out any rollickings so far this season, because of the campaign the Glassboys have had.
He said: “I’m happy with the lads and how well they’ve done this season, I haven’t had to worry about it.
“Last year the main objective was to consolidate and stay in the league. This year we’re hoping to push on.”
The 28-year-old builder is excited about the sell-out crowd at the Amblecote tomorrow, with almost 2,000 expected to cram into the stadium.
Slater hopes now the club have raised their profile the extra fans will stick with them.
He said: “It’s going to be sold out and we haven’t filled the ground for a number of years. People are coming out of the woodwork and we’re hoping they will continue to support the club in the future.
“I can’t make them come but hopefully they will stay. We had good travelling support at Buxton last weekend and they’ll all be there on Saturday with a few thousand more.
“As long as they keep coming to support the lads that’s what we’re looking for. And if we keep playing the way we are I can’t see any reason why they won’t.”
