Huge blaze at glue factory

Firefighters from across Staffordshire and the Black Country battled throughout the night to tackle a fire at an adhesives factory in Cannock.
At its height more than 50 firefighters were involved in tackling the blaze with Staffordshire Fire Service forced to pull in crews from Wolverhampton and Bloxwich and from across the county to help bring the inferno at the R A Wood Adhesive Tapes on Wolverhampton Road, in Cannock, under control.

The fire started at around 9pm last night and quickly spread throughout the two storey building sending plumes of thick smoke hundreds of feet in the air and causing gas cylinders in the factory yard to explode.
Nearby fast food restaurant McDonald’s was forced to close due to smoke and residents in Great Wyrley were warned by police to stay in doors and keep their windows shut.
