Boss’ title favourites lay in wait
Friday 6th November 2009, 8:30AM GMT.
Chris Brindley has told his Stafford Rangers side to give it their best shot at the manager’s own title favourites Alfreton in the Blue Square North.
The Marston Road men go to Derbyshire tomorrow (3pm) aiming to strike the first blow to their much-fancied opponents at the Impact Arena, against a team who have lost just once at home this season.
Nicky Law’s side are starting to pick up steam again and sit sixth after finishing third last season, while Rangers come to town unbeaten in their last two games.
A valiant defeat at Corby preceded a good win at Ilkeston and a fighting draw against Northwich, but the Reds present a real test this Saturday.
Brindley wants his side to go and play their own game come what may.
He said: “Alfreton are a very good side, I fancied them to win the league at the start of the season. They have had a slow start but are starting to pick up, so it’s going to be a hard place to go.
“Playing the better sides we have just got to get what we can, while winning the games against the sides around us. That is what we will have to do.
“Our last three performances have been good, a real improvement, now we have just got to try and produce our best form consistently.”
Rangers currently sit mid-table in a tight Blue Square North, but Brindley is taking nothing for granted.
He said: “It’s tight down there, we may be 13th but we are only five points off the bottom still. There’s a tough game tomorrow to come, so we have to dig in.”
Rangers should be able to welcome back winger Fabrice Kassiama back from flu.
