Second cannabis farm discovered
Thursday 5th November 2009, 11:00AM GMT.

Police burst into a house in Scott Avenue, Wednesbury as the raid takes place.
A second cannabis farm has been discovered in Wednesbury in the space of a week as two suspected drug dealers were arrested in raids.
Homes in Friar Park Road and Scott Avenue were targeted by police in the town early this morning. Cannabis plants were found in the attic of the home in Friar Park Road.
In similar raids on Tuesday a cannabis farm was discovered in The Furlong, Wednesbury, where an 18-year-old man and a 20-year-old woman were arrested for cultivation of the drug.
Another man aged 29 was arrested for possession of cannabis at a second address in Anson Road, Hill Top. Those held on Tuesday are on police bail while the drugs are sent off for analysis.
Inspector Akeel Najib of Wednesbury Police re-iterated that drugs will not be tolerated on the streets of Wednesbury and that raids will be continuing.
He said: “We have been targeting a couple of suspected drug dealers this morning. It is not a problem in the area, they are isolated incidents. We hope to send out a positive message that we are working with our partner agencies.
“This began with a phone call or message to tell us there is some kind of drug dealing or anti social behaviour in the the area. This shows we are here, we are listening to their concerns, we are taking positive action and we won’t tolerate drugs on the streets of the West Midlands.”
Searches were this morning continuing at the Scott Avenue property where children were present during the raids.
Both homes were targeted as part of Operation Surety II, an ongoing police operation in the Wednesbury area.
Inspector Najib added police would now also be looking at tenancy agreements to identify the owners of the properties and the possibility of removing the occupants.
Today’s raids are part of this year’s ‘not in my neighbourhood week’ – a Home Office lead initiative to crack down on crime. It follows on from a 24-hour blitz on crime in August which also saw raids on homes and a West Bromwich pub.
