A drugs dog has been taken into three Wednesbury schools as part of a week-long crime crackdown in the town.

Spaniel Woody is one of four specially trained drugs dogs used by officers in the Black Country, which also has dogs trained to detect cash and firearms.

Visits were made to Wood Green High School on Monday, and Wodensborough and Stuart Bathurst schools yesterday.

The dog was taken into classrooms, but apart from sniffing out a packet paracetamol, nothing illegal were found in any of the high schools.

Inspector Akeel Najib of Wednesbury Police said: “We have been into the three schools to search classrooms and areas of the school.

“This was done with the agreement of the headteachers as part of our drug education programme. Fortunately we did not find drugs in any of the schools.”

The dog is being used as part of “Not in my Neighbourhood Week,” which includes a range of high profile policing activities, including raids on homes and Automatic Numberplate Recognition.
