Kightly fires a salvo at Gunners
Wednesday 4th November 2009, 12:13PM GMT.
Michael Kightly today warned Arsenal that Wolves are a ‘dangerous animal’ and go into their clashes against two Premier League giants without fear.
Mick McCarthy’s side host Arsenal on Saturday tea-time before travelling to leaders Chelsea after the international break.
Winger Kightly echoed McCarthy’s bullish stance by claiming Wolves will be under-estimated at their peril.
Boss McCarthy believes Wolves can take the game to the Gunners, who host AZ Alkmaar in the Champions League tonight, and Kightly reckons his team-mates can surprise the top teams.
“I don’t think we need to fear anyone in this league and we’ve shown that over the last three games,” said Kightly, reflecting on the draws against Everton, Villa and Stoke.
“If everyone thinks we’re not going to get anything from the games, that will suit us.
“When we’re the underdogs, we’re a dangerous animal and we can cause teams problems so it suits us with the other team being the favourites. I think we can surprise a few people.”
Kightly believes Wolves fans are embracing their team’s current billing as one of the underdogs.
“When the smaller Pre-mier League teams come to us sometimes our fans think we should win, but if we’re playing one of the big teams, fans realise it’s going to be a tough game,” he said.
“These are the games we like to play in – and when the fans are right behind you, there’s nothing better.”
