These were the dramatic scenes as police officers stormed into two Black Country homes in dawn drugs raids today.

A cannabis farm was discovered at one home in The Furlong, Wednesbury, where a man and a woman were arrested for cultivation of the drug. Another man was arrested for possession of cannabis at a second address in Anson Road, Hill Top.

At the flat in The Furlong, a total of 12 cannabis plants, with a street value of up to £800, were discovered in a makeshift greenhouse in one of the bedrooms.

Heating and lighting equipment worth between £1,000 and £1,500 was also discovered in the flat and it was believed there could have been more in the attic. Weapons including nunchucks were also found.

The electricity company was set to visit the home today to isolate the power supply so that further investigations could be carried out.

It was believed the cannabis farm was powered by electricity tapped from the main supply to the flats.

Scenes of crime officers were set to visit the scene to photograph the plants in situ before removing them.

Teams of eight officers broke down the doors of both properties at 6.30am today.

Inspector Akeel Najib of Wednesbury Police said: “From our point of view this has gone as expected and we have got a positive result. We have arrested the targets that we went out for and have recovered a significant amount of cannabis.

“This was being cultivated and would no doubt have been trimmed and bagged and sold on the streets of Wednesbury and Sandwell.

“There were only 10 or 12 plants recovered, but once these had been split up into small £10 bags it would have been a considerable amount. We have stopped these drugs going onto the streets.

This sends out a message that drugs will not be tolerated.”

Both homes were targeted as part of Operation Surety II, an ongoing police operation in the Wednesbury area.

A 29-year-old man, 18-year-old man, and a woman aged 20 were arrested and taken to Wednesbury police station, helping police with their inquiries, following the raids.
