Moore goal vindicates boss’ faith

Monday 2nd November 2009, 11:34AM GMT.

ALBION 14 SL 31Defiant Albion boss Roberto Di Matteo has claimed Luke Moore’s return to the scoresheet against Watford vindicated his faith in the striker.

The former Villa forward struck his first goal in nine starts in the 5-0 thrashing of the Hornets and celebrated with the head coach, who ignored fans’ criticism by keeping Moore in the team.

Di Matteo, who also recalled Simon Cox and Filipe Teixeira to his starting line-up, was pleased to see Moore back on target.

The Baggies boss said: “We are just trying to give the players a lot of confidence and we have shown faith in the team, not only him.

“I hope it helps because he is capable of scoring in every game. He gets himself in good positions to score, sometimes he misses and sometimes the goalkeeper makes great saves.

“We see him training week in, week out and can see his ability. It’s just a matter of him having some luck and scoring the goals.”

Albion paired Moore with summer signing Cox, who also scored in only his second League start for the Baggies.

It’s strange… it’s as if the manager knows better than the fans….. who’d have thought it !!!!

It was an almost faultless display from a TEAM. Anyone could have been M.o’M. The lady next to me wanted Watford to score a goal because she felt sorry for them. I wanted us to get TEN! My lasting impression was everyone worked so hard and won the right to flashes of ‘show-boating’ some of the passes demonstrated. Already a local Sunday newspaper has Brummie ‘big clubs’ watching our players. Put up the ‘Do Not Disturb’ sign. We now can see what this group is capable of and it could get better when the injured are available.

Keep Cox and Moore up front for Leicester game. Bednar should be used as an impact player off the bench if we need him.

Good to see Tex get a run out too.

Way too lazy for my liking. Ish and Bednar will be the answer to this problem.

I’m not sure who our first choice front two should be – its hard to leave a fit Bednar out, but if Cox & Moore can get some cofidence and work together they will be hard to dislodge… I think Woods will be an impact player from the bench this year – and we still have Miller to come back…… do we need another striker now ???

    What a difference a week makes !!!

Not sure, Moore is lazy and Cox will be a good player but dont think he is quite ready yet. Bednar has to start for me but some fans dont think he should even be wearing our shirt anymore. Watford were really bad to be fair! Leicester is going to a tricky game but if we want to go up we should be beating promoted teams convincingly.

Whats the betting that Di Matteo starts with only one forward next week against Leicester. Probably Luke Moore, we need to play 4-4-2 even away from home.

Considering he has had to wait for his chance for so long I think the new lad from Swindon has behaved like a true pro. No moaning and grumbling he’s just kept his pecker up and got on with it. Deserved his chance and took it well. I think Cox will be walking round very erect and with his head held high this week. He must be very pleased with himself

The only reason RDM hasnt been playing 4-4-2 away
from home is due to the fact that Roman Bednar
has been injured and Simon Cox hadnt yet made
his mark but hopefully after his goal against
Watford he will get more of a chance.
Now that Albion have a fully fit strike force
to choose from then I cant see anything except
    a 4-4-2 line up,the only question is
    Brunt or Thomas.

Watford were NOT a poor team at all. Stats show they had almost as many shots as we did. It was our time on our day. Personally, I would keep the same side for Saturday, they’ve earned the right. We had a strong bench on Saturday too so the blokes chosen know they have to perform. That’s as it should be.

Cyril, I agree with you, I hope that RDM starts with the same side on Saturday. I think that we need to give Cox Teixiera and Moore another chance.

With Brunt, Koren and Bednar on the bench we would have top quality subs itching to get on to play if required.

I also believe that the reason RDM was not very happy after the 5-0 win against Watford, was that he felt hurt by the booing and comments about himself and the players that were made on and off the pitch when we were still second from top.

It doesn’t give us much hope of retaining him as the Coach if he is being slated for the team not being able to score in every game he must feel disillusioned and wonder what he has let himself in for after the rapturous applause that the traitor TOMO got for getting us back into the Championship again.

Personally I think he is doing a fantastic job and I just hope that he will stay for a good many seasons because when we go back to the Prem next year this time we will be staying there.

Baggie68. He had every right to be annoyed as did Jonas at Coventry IF that’s what took place. We sat centre stage well back behind the goal and had an excellent view. If Wood’s shot had gone in, and on another day it would have but the goalie and defender made a superb double check on his shot, those FEW moaners would have been p***ed and happy instead of looking for a fight. I’m not always sure footballers are worth their silly wages, but managers/head coaches certainly are. It’s a 24/7 job and some of them have a Marlon King in their team too, spoilt little rich boys. Roberto needs our support and understanding because he’s doing great as far as I’m concerned. He’s itching to test himself in the Prem too. This team could do it. It oozes class in many areas.

Perhaps RDM was upset because someone pointed out that when he picked Cox and Tex in a 4-4-2 formation (which many of us had been calling for for weeks)we scored 5 and when we played 4-5-1 at Preston Coventry and second half against Swansea we did not score at all.

Interesting to see that RDM was allegedly downbeat because of the reaction of some of our wonderful fans.
It’s a fact that if you pay your money you have every right to vent your feelings in any way you see fit.
It’s also a fact that empty vessels make more noise. You only need to look on here after a result goes against us. There are also quite a few weaker minded souls with the sheep mentality, always ready to join with a cheer when we’re winning or a baa (sorry boo) when we’re not.

On a similar line. As one of that small group ‘we few, we happy few, we band of brothers’that have dared speak up in the Chairmans support over the last few years. Last season Hull City were continually being used as a club to beat us with. ‘Why aren’t we signing players like Boateng and Geovanni on obscene wages. Why aren’t we spending £5mill plus massive wages on Bullard?’ Still think it was such a good idea?
Yes they’re in the Prem for the time being, while we’re in the CCC and may still be next season. Quite possibly though, if we take their place in the Prem next season, we may never play them again. Sin in haste and repent at leisure. Ask Bradford City. Younger fans may not realise that some years ago they got into the PL and started behaving like a PL club, result, a one way ticket to Palookaville.

Let’s get behind the lads and make them want to play for us and leave it to the manager to decide if they are.
PS. I’m not being a totally smug git. I posted last week saying I couldn’t see what LM was bringing to the party. Sometimes the professionals do see the whole of the moon.
