Lesson learned for Albion’s Cox

Monday 2nd November 2009, 10:39AM GMT.

7982291Albion striker Simon Cox has insisted the Baggies will learn their lesson and avoid another slump after celebrating their second 5-0 win of the season.

The Baggies forward struck his first League goal for the club as they thrashed Watford at the Hawthorns on Saturday.

But Cox struck a cautious note and claimed the team will not repeat their reaction to their previous 5-0 success at Middlesbrough, when they won just one of the following six Championship matches.

He said: “We’re high on confidence but remember the last time we won 5-0, away at Middlesbrough, and remember the bad results we had after that.

“We’re not going to get complacent on the back of a 5-0. We’ll take 1-0 wins and it doesn’t really bother us as long as we keep getting the points.

“We’re going to enjoy the win but get back into training tomorrow and look forward to Saturday at Leicester.”

Cox struck up an instant understanding on Saturday with strike partner Luke Moore, the first time that the pair have started together.

The summer signing was delighted to see Moore also get his name on the scoresheet for the first time in nine games.

He said: “In the last few games Luke has worked hard. He runs himself into the ground and he has just not been getting the rub of the green.

“Luke is a confident boy who will get himself on the end of things and keep putting himself in the right places to score goals.

“If he wasn’t in those places we would be asking questions of him. If the manager picks me and Luke he picks me and Luke.

“It’s up to him and if he thinks that’s the best thing for the team that’s the way it will go.”
