Fans grab big match tickets

Monday 2nd November 2009, 11:30AM GMT.

FA CUP 5 EB 01

Stourbridge fans queued in gale-force winds to get their hands on a sought-after ticket for the biggest game in the club’s history.

Some stood in the rain from 7am, four hours before tickets for the FA Cup First Round tie against Walsall went on sale.

Many who came to the ground in High Street Amblecote were turned away after being told none were on general sale yet.

Only season ticket holders or those with proof they have attended this season’s games were allowed to queue for their raffle ticket number to be called, issued to ensure there was not a sudden surge.

Assistant club manager, Jon Ford aged 41, said an average match would attract a maximum of 300 fans.

He said: “If we can get a tenth of the fans who turn up to this Saturday’s game on a regular basis that would be fantastic.”

The capacity for the game will be just 1,210. Around 400 tickets were sold yesterday and they are likely to go on general sale tomorrow night.
