Third time lucky for Anderson

Saturday 31st October 2009, 8:15AM GMT.

BOXERS 4 EB 25Dudley featherweight Dean Anderson has vowed to make up for lost time when he makes his professional debut at the third time of asking.

The former Priory Park amateur will finally punch for pay for the first time in his hometown at ‘the Venue’ on November 28, the scene of what was supposed to be his maiden voyage earlier this month.

But the British Boxing Board of Control refused to licence the youngster for the second time some 72 hours before the show, due to the 22-year-old suffering from asthma. The board had already vetoed a planned fight at Edgbaston’s Tower Ballrooms in July.

Now it’s iron clad – Anderson has a letter in his possession permitting him to compete and has declared nothing is going to stop him now.

He said: “It was upsetting for me, because I had trained ever so hard for the last fight, stopped going out and everything. I went to the show and, although I enjoyed watching out, I didn’t like watching the other boys fight while I had to sit out.

“But the board can’t stop me now, and I can’t wait to show them how fit I actually am. It’s great that I am going to get another chance to box in my hometown, lots of people came to see me last time and now I want to repay them.

“I really should have had at least a couple of fights under my belt by now, but I am only 22 so my best years are in front of me. Young Mutley didn’t win the British title until he was 29.”
