Bednar gears up for Albion return

Friday 30th October 2009, 11:29AM GMT.

7857782Albion striker Roman Bednar has geared up for his return from injury by insisting he is itching to get back on the goal trail.

The Czech forward is back in training almost a fortnight after injuring his back against Reading.

Bednar is eager to rediscover his best form, to prove his two-goal salvo at Sheffield United on his comeback from a drugs ban was no flash in the pan.

He said: “I had a long time without football and then I got this injury. It was really nice in my first game to come back and score two goals but that’s not enough for me. I want to score in nearly every game and I think that can happen.

“I want this team to get promoted. We have kept some clean sheets and now it’s down to the strikers to score some goals.”

Bednar played down concerns about a shortage of goals from Albion’s strikers.

The 26-year-old said: “I hear that all this week the guys have been doing some finishing, but I don’t think it’s a major problem.

“Maybe guys need to get a bit more confident, but some goals we have scored have been great finishes. It’s not a major problem, but we should be putting the ball in the net.”

Midfield enforcer Youssouf Mulumbu looks set to miss the clash with Watford tomorrow – ending his ever-present Championship record.

The DR Congo international injured a knee ligament in training and is a major doubt.
