Skipper tips Smith for the big time

Thursday 29th October 2009, 11:24AM GMT.

walsall-12Walsall skipper Mark Hughes has tipped the Saddlers’ star defender Manny Smith for a move to the big time.

The captain believes Smith will emulate former Saddlers centre-back Anthony Gerrard, who switched to Cardiff in the summer.

Hughes, who leads the team to Wycombe on Saturday, believes his defensive partner has a bright future.

He said: “Manny is a really good player and he has got what a defender needs. If he keeps doing what he’s doing and gets his head down, no disrespect to Walsall, he will play higher.

“We have all got ambitions to move on and I don’t think anyone is different, but if he keeps doing what he is doing his chance will come.

“Manny has come on leaps and bounds in the past year.”

    Great Captaincy Hughes!

What you up to, trying to unsettle him so his levels drop and you keep your place in the side.
Let’s be honest after Saturday you should dropped and Manny and Clayton play at centre back!

‘We have all got ambitions to move on’?????….
