Ikeme joins Charlton on loan

Wolves have allowed third choice goalkeeper Carl Ikeme to join League One Charlton on a 28-day emergency loan.
The 23-year-old replaces ever-present Rob Elliot, who is out for six weeks after suffering a torn adductor muscle in Saturday’s 1-1 draw against Gillingham. The parent club have an emergency recall for Ikeme, if Wayne Hennessey or Marcus Hahnemann are injured or ill during the month.
Ikeme, who has previously had loan spells at Stockport and Accrington Stanley, is set to make his Addicks debut at Carlisle on Saturday, one of five league games he is eligible for along with Milton Keynes Dons, Yeovil, Bristol Rovers and Southampton in the Johnstone Paints Trophy southern quarter-final – but not the FA Cup.
The 6ft 3in Castle Bromwich-bred shotstopper is the fifth Wolves player to be loaned to a League One club this season after Sam Vokes to Leeds, Danny Batth at Colchester, George Friend with Millwall and Southend and Darren Ward to Millwall.
Ikeme will encounter some familiar faces along the way, with Wolves trialist Ian Harte at Carlisle and a trio of ex-Molineux faces at MK Dons – fellow Wolves homegrown players Stephen Gleeson, Lewis Gobern and Jemal Johnson.
Boss Mick McCarthy had previously claimed he wouldn’t allow Ikeme out until Matt Murray was ready to play, so the news must be good for the 28-year-old.

Nah he needed some games, Its obvious that Hennessey and Hahnemann are our first 2 choices, but I believe Ikeme is a quality keeper and will do well for them

It makes perfect sense to me.
Keep Ikerne match fit while playing for Charlton with an emergency recall option in the event that either of the other two keeps currently playing are either unfit or red-carded with the resultant ban.
When Matt Murray is finally fit farm him out to another Football league side to obtain some sharpness. After two and a half years out only a fool would expect him to waltz straight back into goal for Wolves

Carl is a very good goalkeeper and certainly one for the future. However, he did not do himself any favours with the recent fracas in Birmingham with the likes of Cameron Jerome!
Hopefully Matt will be back soon.

As a massive murray fan I pray for the day he returns to full fitness, He could be the final piece of the jigsaw! However Carl is a brilliant prospect and as a lifer wolves fan am more than happy for him to make No1, whether he’s that good remains for him to get the chance to prove! To all the people that fill this site with doubt, you aint true fans and to the rest “COME ON YOU MIGHTY WOLVES”. In Mick we finally trust!
