Halesowen 4 Cirencester 0

Thursday 29th October 2009, 8:00AM GMT.

thegroveHalesowen enjoyed a comfortable passage through to the second round of the Red Insure Southern League Cup with two early and two late goals.

The Yeltz put their recent long lay-off behind them to force two early corners and Tom Bates opened the scoring with a 30-yard shot flying over goalkeeper Adam Clatworthy after nine minutes.

The game effectively ended as a contest three minutes later when David Blenkinsopp threaded the ball through for Stefan Moore to round goalkeeper Clatworthy and double the lead with his 13th goal of the season.

Blenkinsopp’s 14th minute header then rebounded off the bar as the Yeltz threatened to run riot.

The Centurions’ cause became bleaker still in the 33rd minute when Lyndon Tomkins was shown a straight red card for hauling down Moore, as he broke through the defensive line 35 yards out from goal.

The frustrated visitors lacked an end product although Ryan Parker tested goalkeeper Nick Bussey in the 40th minute.

Blenkinsopp netted again after a slow start to the second half only to see his effort disallowed for his hefty challenge on keeper Clatworthy. But 10-man Cirencester held the score at 2-0 until Halesowen added two further goals in the final 10 minutes.

Moore had the simple task of claiming his second of the game in front of goal in the 81st minute, after Blenkinsopp’s header hit the inside of the far post.

Two minutes into stoppage time, defender Stefan Morley converted from close range in a goalmouth scramble after goalkeeper Clatworthy failed to collect.
