Albion boss ponders loan striker raid
Thursday 29th October 2009, 11:20AM GMT.
Albion boss Roberto Di Matteo has admitted the club could raid the loan market if his strikers continue to fire blanks.
Baggies coaches have laid on extra practice sessions this week in a bid to help their misfiring forwards end their search for goals.
But the head coach has admitted the transfer market remains an option, if Luke Moore and Co fail to rediscover their scoring touch.
Di Matteo said: “We have been looking at that department, but a week ago we were the second highest scorers in the league and today we are the third highest scorers in the league.
“You always review and re-assess your own situation, so it might be an area where we might have to do something if we don’t get the goals from our team.”
Albion have played seven times since a forward last found the net, with Roman Bednar bagging the fourth goal in the 5-0 win at Middlesbrough.
Di Matteo revealed the strikers have been working hard this week to put an end to the barren run.
He said: “We are working on that topic this week, but I think we had chances to win the game at Coventry.
“At the moment we are creating a number of chances, but we are not taking them and in the last two games that has probably cost us.”
