Setback for Stourbridge FA Cup bid

Tuesday 27th October 2009, 11:13AM GMT.

Stourbridge FC’s dreams of hosting its own FA Cup match have been left on a tightrope after plans to erect temporary stands appear dashed meaning thousands of fans could be left disappointed.

Supporters could be denied the chance to watch FA first round cup tie against Walsall live if temporary stands cannot be brought in to cater for demand for tickets.

Football Association officials say The Glassboys home, the War Memorial Athletic Ground in Amblecote, cannot be altered to pack more fans in for the biggest game in the club’s history. The ground only has terraces on three sides.

If an agreement cannot be reached the club could be forced to move the fixture to another stadium.

The ground can hold 1,250 fans but club officials expect more than 6,000 fans to join the rush for tickets.

Club chairman Ian Pilkington and officials will today meet representatives from Dudley Council, the police, the FA and Walsall football club to discuss arrangements for the game.
