Battle with Koren keeps Dorrans sharp
Tuesday 27th October 2009, 10:11AM GMT.
Albion youngster Graham Dorrans has revealed how the sight of midfield rival Robert Koren looming on the bench is keeping him on his toes.
The 22-year-old Scot, who has been the star of the Baggies’ season so far, is keeping the Slovenia captain on the sidelines.
But Dorrans reckons the pressure from Koren has been key to his form.
He said: “We’ve got people like Roko pushing to get in there. He speaks for himself. He is the captain of his country and a great player. We are doing OK now but there is a lot of competition for places.
“You know if your performance dips there are quality players who can come in and do the job, so that keeps you on your toes.
“I’m pleased that I have been playing most of the games. Some of the games have been a bit disappointing, like the last two. But from a personal point of view it’s great to be playing.
“We’ve had a bit of a stop-start season with winning and losing games, but I suppose that’s the way the whole season has gone for the rest of the League.
“I am enjoying it in the centre. I really like playing alongside Youssouf Mulumbu and I would say that’s my best position.”

Dorrans says that there is a lot of competition for places, maybe, but the same old forwards keep getting picked.

I would play both Dorrans and Koren at the same time and drop Moore with Bednar up front on his own. Moore has been so disappointing that hopefully Mowbray will have him back. £3M for him…having a laugh. He’s one of the highest earners at the club to top it off!
