Talented two picked for part in production
Friday 23rd October 2009, 11:30AM BST.
It was their big moment and the room was filled with nerves as pupils from Coppice Performing Arts School were given a chance to show off their talents.
They were auditioning for a role in High School Musical 2 – Live on Stage, which has been wowing audiences at Wolverhampton’s Grand Theatre this week. Around 30 pupils from the Wednesfield school showed off their singing and dancing talents to try to win a walk-on part.
The hit production stars comedian Les Dennis as Mr Fulton.
Talented Amber Lloyd, aged 13, and 14-year-old Amy Goodall were the eventual winners and will appear on stage at the Grand tonight and tomorrow.
Judge Alison Norton said it was nerve-wracking but enjoyable experience for the youngsters. “The atmosphere among the students taking part was wonderful,” she said.
“They were all clearly very excited and as they began to perform, it was apparent that a lot of preparation and effort had gone into their audition pieces. Similarly there was great support from the pupils in the audience. They really cheered their friends on, which of course naturally improves performance.” Describing the standard as “exceptional for youngsters of their age”, she added: “It was hard to choose the top two.
“Amy had the most amazing voice for a 14-year-old and Amber was also exceptional.”
The other judges included the theatre’s education officer Louise Bent, as well as Nikki Mae and Liam Doyle, who play the lead roles in the stage version of High School Musical 2, which is on at the Grand at 5pm and 8.30pm tonight, and tomorrow at 2.30pm and 7pm.
