Valero wants to stay in Spain
Thursday 22nd October 2009, 11:01AM BST.
Albion record signing Borja Valero has claimed he wants to stay at Real Mallorca when his loan ends next summer.
The midfielder’s agent recently claimed his client would welcome a return to the Hawthorns next season, after his year-long loan at his former club.
But the 24-year-old has now expressed his wish to stay permanently in La Liga.
He said: “I want to play very well, so that all the parties can agree to a move. I hope I am given the opportunity at Mallorca so that the purchase option is possible to be made effective.
“The economic situation of Mallorca is not easy and the clause is high, but at least it’s agreed and we know where we are.”
Valero joined Albion from Mallorca in the summer of 2008 for a club-record fee of £4.7milliom.
But the Spainard failed to make an impact at the Hawthorns and fell out of favour after Roberto Di Matteo’s arrival as head coach.
Mallorca officials revealed this week that they have an option to buy Valero next summer for £3.7million.
