Lout’s campaign of terror on city estate
Friday 16th October 2009, 11:30AM BST.
A teenage gang member who terrorised a Wolverhampton estate has been given a five-year anti-social behaviour order.
Daniel Westwood’s campaign of misery included pelting buses and homes with bricks.
He also hurled abuse at passers-by, threatened people and trashed a youth centre. The 15-year-old was part of gang that made life unbearable for residents in The Scotlands area of the city, Wolverhampton Magistrates Court was told. He is currently serving a two-month sentence in a young offenders institution for assault.
Westwood was labelled “a disgrace” by a district judge, who banned him setting foot in more than 20 city streets once he is free.
The teenager, of Festival Way, Whitmore Reans, was described in court as “a prominent gang member” who roamed The Scotlands over a period of several months.
He smirked in the dock yesterday as he was addressed by District Judge Graham Wilkinson. The court heard how he was locked up for two months on September 22 for a previous assault.
Tony Watkin, prosecuting, said: “This defendant has shown contempt for authority, he has been disrespectful and abusive and has made life a misery for many people.
“He has damaged a youth centre, damaged properties, and used demeaning and bullying behaviour to a lot of residents.”
The centre in The Scotlands needed £11,000 spent on it after Westwood and his gang attacked it, it was said.
When police spoke to him before he appeared at this court he put his behaviour down to being “bored”.
Giving him the Asbo, District Judge Wilkinson told Westwood: “You are out of control and I have no doubt you have made the lives of many people a misery.”
