Leeds in pole position for Vokes deal

Sam VokesLeague One giants Leeds have taken pole position in the race to land young Wolves striker Sam Vokes on loan.

The parent club have confirmed the unbeaten League One leaders are favourites to tie up a deal to secure the Wales international, who turns 20 next week, until January initially.

Doncaster are one of several Championship clubs tracking Vokes, after their Wolverhampton-born boss Sean O’Driscoll confirmed their interest. But now Leeds look like winning the race.

O’Driscoll said: “Our interest in Vokes is well known, but there are four or five other clubs interested and it comes down to money.”

Derby and Coventry were close to signing Vokes in August and last month respectively. But the Rams’ deal fell through when their star striker Rob Hulse failed to agree personal terms on a move to Middlesbrough, while the Sky Blues failed to meet Wolves’ criteria for the deal.
