Hockey team stick with it for charity

Team-mates from Lichfield Men’s Hockey Club are helping a local fundraising group to promote a sponsored walk during Breast Cancer Awareness Month this month.

The team are encouraging local people to follow their lead and get in the pink at the seventh annual Shugborough Stride at the Shugborough Estate a week on Sunday.

The team, who wear a pink sports kit, are already supporting the work of Cancer Research UK through a range of sporting activities undertaken throughout this summer and autumn.

Last year, more than 200 walkers donned pink outfits and raised more than £6,000 for Cancer Research UK.

This year’s Shugborough Stride offers distances of 5km or 10km to cater for both keen walkers and relaxed strollers.

The event is being organised by a group of local volunteers as part of Cancer Research UK’s fund-raising activities.

As well as raising vital funds for research, Cancer Research UK’s campaign aims to make all women aware of their risk of breast cancer.

Michael Johnson, from Lichfield Hockey Club, said: “As a team, we are already supporting Cancer Research UK with our own fundraising this year.

“But we also wanted to lend our support to this great local event because we all know someone who has been touched by breast cancer.

“Stepping forward to join the fight for women’s survival at the Shugborough Stride is a great way to help a really important cause and have fun at the same time.”

Anyone interested in taking part in the Shugborough Stride should contact organiser Sally Callahan on 07884 233 015 or by email at shugboroughstride@hotmail.co. uk
