Coventry miss out on Vokes loan

Tuesday 6th October 2009, 9:41AM BST.

Sam VokesWolves have claimed Coventry have missed out on the chance to sign striker Sam Vokes.

The Sky Blues stalled on agreeing to the parent club’s requests as part of the deal – including taking the Wales international for the rest of the season, 24-hour recall and exclusion from the FA Cup.

Coventry were in no hurry to complete the deal, with forwards Clinton Morrison and Leon Best having scored 12 between them.

Molineux boss Mick McCarthy now reckons Vokes will go elsewhere, when his future will be sorted out on his return from international duty next week.

The manager said: “The option for him to go to Coventry may well have gone, because it hasn’t been done.

“It was set up to be done but they didn’t do it, so we’ll see because there are a few clubs that want him.

“More than likely a loan will happen, but not just yet because he’s gone away with Wales. There’s nothing going to happen for a while.

“Where he goes, I don’t know but it’s been a shame for Sam.”
