Burnley 2 Birmingham 1 – Verdict
Saturday 3rd October 2009, 5:15PM BST.
Birmingham failed to make a dent in Burnley’s immaculate home record after going down to defeat to Turf Moor.
Steven Fletcher broke the deadlock in the 53rd minute, sweeping the ball home from 18 yards to score his first goal for the club, before Andre Bikey also opened his Clarets goal account.
The makeshift midfielder slotted home, after a neat one-two with David Nugent.
Sebastian Larsson curling in a free-kick some five minutes into stoppage time was too little, too late for Blues.
But Lee Bowyer could have struck first blood for Alex McLeish’s side with the game goalless, but made a complete mess of Roger Johnson’s shot across the box and the ball was cleared.
