Dwayne Mattis admits it was a dream come true to score against the team he supported as a boy – even if he now has to keep a low profile.
The midfielder bagged the 87th-minute winner against old team Huddersfield last night as Walsall came from behind to win 2-1 and record their first home victory in six months.
Darren Byfield’s penalty had levelled Theo Robinson’s 47th minute opener and Mattis, who still lives in Huddersfield, says his goal meant everything.
“It was a dream come true to score a last minute winner against them,”said Mattis, who made 79 appearances for the Terriers. “I’ve been looking forward to playing against Huddersfield ever since I left so to score the winner is what I’ve dreamt of since I got released by them.
“I’ve played against them four times now but that is the first goal, I’ll remember it until the day I die.”
