Woffinden blast for Lakeside man
Tuesday 29th September 2009, 8:56AM BST.
Furious Tai Woffinden blasted rival racer Lee Richardson after Wolves’ win in the play-off semi-final at Lakeside.
The 19-year-old stormed into the pits after falling in the final race of the night. He was forcibly held back by Wolves riders and staff, notably Fredrik Lindgren, and club owner Chris Van Straaten.
It came after Woffinden spun and fell while chasing race leader Richardson in heat 15. The Lakeside man appeared bemused by the fuss, and there seemed to the onlooker to be little wrong with his riding.
But the Wolves man said afterwards: “It’s hard when you get an idiot like him doing dirty things in the middle of a race. I’ll get him back next time. I just went down the straight, looked across and smack!
“It’s like one of the dirtiest things you can do on a speedway bike.”
Ironically, the two are teammates in Poland at Czestochowa and rode on Sunday in their team’s two-point at Bydgoszcz in the first leg of the third-place play-off.
Woffinden had an on-track row with Poole’s Bjarne Pedersen earlier this season, but was the peacemaker at the Cardiff Grand Prix when Scott Nicholls and Emil Sayfutdinov exchanged punches.

The boy needs to grow up – if you saw the playback you would see Tai fell off by himself. He really needs to watch it and see, even his own supporters know that he was in the wrong. Childish little boy!

Tai, go and buy a new dummy to replace the one you spat out. Watched the replay a few times now and Lee did nothing wrong. Grow up!!

Think this may run a lot deeper than 1 race. There must be some previous between them & I recall Richardson running Tai very hard on at least 1 occasion in a Lakside meeting at Monmore earlier this year (as Richardson seems to do regularly to most riders), with Tai passing comment on it in an after meeting interview

Think if you look closely Richardson has a look where Tai is and purposley locks up in the middle of the bend thus causing Tai to fall. Not the first time Richardson has done this trick on people,I’d rather have the riders showing there anger at least it shows there fully committed.

Tai needs to grow up very quickly. Richardson did nothing wrong. I guess Tai will feel a bit stupid for his over reaction and stupid comments in an already dangerous sport, it’s gonna be a lot tougher in the GP’s, he can’t fight everyone that does something he doesn’t like. He needs some clear direction from somewhere!

Hate to say it but Tai has made himself look like a child here. Richardson did nothing wrong at all! Tai went in too fast and spun, simple! Hope this is the last we see of his tantrums, as he can’t afford to lose his cool over nothing like he has here. And then to publically threaten an opponent with revenge is disgusting! Especially when we have seen so many riders seriously injured or worse over the years. Silly boy.
