Weston wants to exorcise demons
Tuesday 29th September 2009, 10:51AM BST.
Walsall defender Rhys Weston believes the team want to exorcise their Banks’s Stadium demons in the clash against Huddersfield.
The Saddlers host the sixth-placed Terriers tonight, aiming for their first home win in six months and are desperate to forget Saturday’s 3-0 defeat at Hartlepool.
Chris Hutchings’ side sit 16th in League One and Weston reckons this is the ideal chance to end their wretched run.
He said: “It gives us a chance to put our demons to bed with regards to our home form. We’ll be trying our utmost to get a positive result.
“For whatever reason we haven’t performed at home and we’re aware of it. Obviously a lot has been made about the fact we haven’t won a game since March, but the run will come to an end sooner rather than later and hopefully it will end tonight.
“It’s another game and irrespective of who turns up and what they do isn’t our concern. Our concern is making sure we’re 100 per cent focused to give a performance to eradicate the memory of Saturday.”
The 28-year-old could benefit from boss Hutchings’ threat to make changes following their Victoria Park horror show, after he replaced the sick Clayton McDonald.
Steve Jones and Sam Parkin are also pushing for spots, with Weston declaring himself ready to make his first start for over a month.
He said: “The gaffer always says it’s a squad game and it’s a long season.”
