Refreshed Klindt key in Wolves win

Tuesday 29th September 2009, 8:57AM BST.

Nicolai KlindtWolves rider Nicolai Klindt rose from his slumbers to give Lakeside an early alarm call.

The busy Dane changed his customary schedule at the urging of his support staff to get in some daylight sleep before last night’s vital match.

Klindt looked razor sharp from the off, rattling in seven points from his first three starts as Wolves killed off the tie.

He said: “It’s been a pretty hard weekend for me, because I’ve been practising a lot and doing some stuff with my company.

“I’ve been working pretty hard. My mechanic has quit for the season in Denmark, so I’ve had to do my stuff myself.

“But Paul Tenhoeve, who has helped me a lot, picked me up  at the airport and took me to a hotel, so I had about a six-hour sleep!

“That was perfect and made me fresh for tonight.”

Klindt combined with Fredrik Lindgren for a first heat 5-1 that ensured the Hammers were unable to develop any momentum, as they tried to haul back the points deficit from the first leg.

Although the Dane finished with a last place from the graveyard gate four and a fall when trying to avoid Kauko Nieminen, the damage was done.

He said: “It’s sad it ended with two last places for me, but the main thing is the team won. I’m not normally that good round here.

“But I just came with another attitude, was a bit more motivated and got some good points.”
