Rangers told to take FA Cup reprieve

Tuesday 29th September 2009, 8:30AM BST.

RANGERS 10 AW 25Stafford Rangers manager Chris Brindley is looking for his side to redeem themselves by sealing a place in the next round of the FA Cup.

The Blue Square North side face a replay against Midland Alliance minnows Coventry Sphinx in the second qualifying round at Marston Road tonight (7:45pm), with the winner to face Southern League outfit Bedworth United at home on October 10 for a place in the first round proper.

But first Rangers must finally see off the challenge of a team three leagues below them in the non-league pyramid but the home team will not take them lightly, especially after having to turn round a two-goal deficit just to force a draw at Spinhx Drive on Saturday.

The manager found himself relived just to still be in the competition after that 2-2 result, and has told his side better will be expected of them tonight.

This is, Brindley believes, their second chance.

He said: “The main thing is that we have a chance to put it right, but no doubt about it we are lucky to still be in the cup. I will be looking for an immediate answer from the players, and we certainly won’t be underestimating our opponents after Saturday.

“I was very disappointed after that game because we played poorly, so we will have to be much better tonight.”

Rangers will have to do without injured centre-half Emmanuel Udoji, while striker Ben Mills is also a doubt with a twisted ankle.
