Miracle baby goes home in style
Tuesday 29th September 2009, 11:30AM BST.
A baby who was born more than three months premature has returned home after spending 19 months in hospital.
A pink limousine picked Demi-Leigh Dearn up from Birmingham Children’s Hospital to take her to her home in Pitfields Road, Oldbury.
Parents Emma Williams, 22, and Ashley Dearn now hope their daughter will be home to stay after enduring several operations since being born at 23 weeks in January 2008 weighing 1lb 3oz.
Emma had a normal pregnancy and there were no fears that the baby would be premature. But on January 23 last year, her waters suddenly broke. She was rushed to Sandwell Hospital, before being transferred to The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital.
The next morning Emma and her breech baby were rushed to the labour ward, where 17 minutes later she was born naturally.
Emma said: “It has been really emotional. She has been very poorly, and we have nearly lost her, so it hasn’t really hit me that she is actually at home.”
