Olsson vows to repay Albion’s faith
Monday 28th September 2009, 10:59AM BST.
Albion defender Jonas Olsson has pledged to repay the club’s faith after committing himself for the next four years.
The vice-captain put the finishing touches to his improved contract at the weekend and put pen to paper before Saturday’s meeting with Crystal Palace.
Now the 26-year-old has voiced his determination to reward the club for giving him a chance to make his mark in England.
Olsson said: “I am very happy about it. It’s the longest I have committed myself to any club in my career and that is an indicator that I am really happy here.
“I am really pleased with the club for giving me the chance last year and now for agreeing a new four-year deal with me. I am going to do my best to repay that confidence.”
Olsson joined the Baggies last summer from NEC Nijmegen for an initial £850,000 and went on to establish himself as a firm favourite with Baggies fans last season.
The centre-half was appointed vice-captain last month, after a summer in which he was linked in his native Sweden with moves away from the Hawthorns.
But the player has now dampened that speculation by agreeing improved terms and a two-year extension to a contract that was due to run out at the end of next season.

Some good news from the weekend – I see Moore is injured again!! Shame he didn’t get injured pre Saturday. The bloke’s useless and needs to show a bit more of what Jonas puts in week in, week out.
I must say, I thought Palace deserve a lot of credit for Saturday. They did Warnock proud, they were quicker to the ball and put pressure on us from the off. Basically they seemed a little more up for it than some of our lads. However I must say, poor team selection (Jara in right midfield), poor substitutions (reid instead of Tex)= poor result. I hope everyone concerned learns a lesson from this and hopefully Barnsley will suffer for it tomorrow night! Get the side right Robbie!

Jonas Olsson, fast becoming an Albion legend in his own right. Keep it up Jonas and at the end of the 4th year your name will be mentioned along with Joe Kennedy, John Wile, Ally Robertson when we talk great Albion defenders. I am not a particular fan of Moore, but only because his talent is so fragile due to his attitude. Surely StevePoole you can’t really want to see a player injured? Any player, in any team. I’m sure you meant you wish he hadn’t been chosen to play. I personally would have chosen Wood to partner Bednar on pure size alone against Palace, then bring Moore on later when those two brutal centre backs had had some of the medicine they were dishing out. It’s all water under the bridge now. Howdo Jodie. Wherest thee bin aer wench?

Hi Cyril I have been here all the time it’s just that my comments are not getting through (hope this one does) I have still enjoyed reading all your posts. Shame about saturday still you can’t win them all. Listening to talk sport on Sunday the presenter said it was a shock, but he was sure we will soon bounce back it sometimes happens, hopefully our baggie boys learn from it. Hope we win Tuesday we can then put it behind us, boing boing.

7 What you on about ? I have always associated tippy tappy with TM, whats your problem with that and how does that make me a dingle ? silly boy.

Baggiessss
It’s all very well making off-the-cuff, know-it-all remarks like “they’re all donkeys” but it’s not constructive, nor does it provide any solutions to the supposed problem.
What would you suggest? Drop them all and play Samuels, Barnett/Meite and Jara? Or maybe sell them and see if we can entice Paul Crichton and Andy McDermott back?
I bet you weren’t complaining when we scored 200 goals under Mowbray. Well we wouldn’t have scored 200 goals if we’d had 4 defenders who hoofed the ball into the channels and gave it back to the opposition every time they got it. Having defenders who can pass is a symptom of the open, attacking football we play.
It’s obvious to anyone with half a brain that Carson and Zuiverloon are very talented young footballers, probably more talented than anyone we’ve had in their respective positions for 25 years. Mattock’s 19 and we’ve seen him about half a dozen times. What is getting on their back going to achieve?

Jodie
I get the impression you’re calling Olsson tippy tappy and saying he should have gone with TM. If I’ve got that wrong, then I’m sorry. If I didn’t, then I think it’s a crazy assessment.

Jodie, I think E&S were worrying this was turning into a ‘dating’ page. Oh if only I were a lot of years younger. A girl who follows Albion and can talk sense on football. Any news on who is fit to play tomorrow anyone? Bednar took some hammering, I hope he’s fit. Then put Wood alongside stand up to big, naughty centre-backs.

well said cyrille, moores not great but needs to bang in the sitters he missed, may be he did summat in training thats why he was started, but woods he can only get better, and olson he seems to enjoy himself most games, so an encouraging start to the season

1, Baggiesssss. If that’s what you’ve said literally after every game about our players, then please let me make a suggestion for the good of the team and the club.
I would suggest that you should go and join them in a training session then there will be another DONKEY with them to play tippy tappy and they should be able to learn something from a know-all like YOU.
That is when they have stopped laughing their heads off you Donkeee.
C’mon the Baggies!!!!!!!!!!!

Warren when did I say Olsson was tippy tappy ? also I don’t even know what tippy tappy is, I just remember a few presenters on the radio saying it a few times which I associated with TM ONLY. So I accept your apology boing boing.

Jodie,
As the article was on Olsson, I thought you were saying that he was tippy-tappy (too many pointless sidewards and backwards short passes). It’s me misreading it and being defensive and snappy because we’d lost and I’d just read a load of negative posts on the other thread. I apologise, I hope you and Sir Terry can forgive me!! Boing Boing
Report abuse
Warren I will, don’t know about Sir Terry though?.I know how you feel when we lose I am left devastated. Thank you for explaining tippy tappy. I hate negative posts also I never read them.

Someone explain to an old git (me), brought up on positive football, (trying hard to win, not just ‘not lose’), how lots of 4 yard passes across our own goalmouth, followed by a troubled back-pass to the goalie who then hoofs it wildly upfield is better than the full back whacking it forward when under extreme pressure, or even finding row Z if needs be. At best they are equally negative. At worst, we cock it up and give a goal away. I love quick flowing passing but there are times when a defender clears his lines to make time for re-positioning the defenders. So my definition of ‘tippy-tappy’ is in there somewhere and it drives me to drink!
Cyril, you’ve seen a lot more football than me, and I take your point completely.
What I wasn’t defending was repetitive crab-like football that gets us into trouble defensively, if the ball needs clearing, clear it. Perhaps I wasn’t clear enough on that. I do think however, that hitting the channels when in possession with time is something we evolved out of as a team when Sir Gary Megson left, and with some distinct advantages. I’d rather we kept the ball than did that.
Half of my point earlier was that picking on individuals achieves nothing. The players on the pitch in each position are well-drilled from the manager and coaching staff as to what areas of the pitch to look for when in possession. If sometimes they over-elaborate then the responsibility should fall with TM or RDM.
What riled me on here, was that people were picking on individuals. Someone berated Mattock, Martis, Zuvi and Carson, 4 players with an average age of around 21….what good is that? They’re just trying to do the job they’ve been told to do. You can probably remember better players than the current crop at the Albion, but I’m certainly struggling (maybe shows my age). I just think we’ll undermine our own chances of success with this team (a la Wolves 1991-2002) if we start getting on our own players backs.

Dare I enter the tippy tappy debate. I must admit that Jodie’s original mail confused me, along with Warren it seems but being a shrinking violet and knowing women’s aggressive tendencies I kept my thoughts to myself.
I think we all have our own ideas and there are times when the hoof upfield is needed, even Arsenal do it. Sometimes though, as was the case on Saturday, when you’re up against a defence and midfield that don’t want to come out to play, you need to draw them forward to make space. Man Ure do it, Barcelona do it, Brazil do it. They may all do it slightly better than us but that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t.

just to clarify what I truely meant in post no 5″Tippy Tappy should have gone with TM” I was referring to the playing “style” and not Olsson I never mentioned Olsson and never meant Olsson I just piggybacked no1 who also never said that about Olsson, I just saw the words tippy tappy and thought of TM style which I heard A few times on talk sport. Hope thats cleared that one up. And as for womens aggressive tendencies no24 it doesn’t rate no where near as bad as mens sensitivity boing boing
