Angry Walsall boss threatens the axe

Monday 28th September 2009, 10:50AM BST.

Chris Hutchings shouts the orders.Angry Walsall boss Chris Hutchings has threatened his players with the axe after their north east no-show.

The Saddlers were beaten 3-0 by Hartlepool on Saturday, who claimed their first win at Victoria Park since April.

Andy Monkhouse’s brace and Colin Larkin’s classy chip condemned them to their biggest defeat of the season and, ahead of tomorrow’s visit of Huddersfield, the manager is considering changes.

He said: “We didn’t perform, individually or collectively and that’s the most disappointing thing. We can’t dwell on it, we’ve got another big game tomorrow and the challenge will be thrown out to the players that they have got to perform.

“It remains to be seen whether I will change a few things round, but it looked like one or two were a little leggy for some reason. Perhaps they felt it was a sunny day out in the north.

“There are quite a few players in my thoughts because it was a poor performance.”

Hutchings is hoping it was a one-off display after the Saddlers lost their five match unbeaten run.

He said: “We’re really disappointed because we looked nothing like the side we’ve been in recent weeks. We shot ourselves in the foot.  We went away at Tranmere and won, so we have to see if this was a one-off and only time will tell.

“It was one of those days where every decision we’ve made, whether on the ball or off the ball, was a poor one.”

A one-off display? It is as if Hutchings had not seen Walsall at all this season. It is very much the exception when we play well.

Let’s face it Chris , your clutching at straw’s ! You haven’t got much else to bring in to improve a squad that is desperately struggling without any decent signing’s…….. again ! You must have rubbed your hand’s together when “our” beloved chairman gave you an extention on your contract , at least you’ll get a pay off when he sack’s you , and lay’s the blame squarely at your feet ! Your record is not much better than the last great manager Mr Muddle ,and will probably be as good as the next manager who will have to make do with all the cast off’s and stray’s we alway’s end up with !! Mr Whalley doesn’t understand why supporter’s are throwing the towel in …. give us a break !!

I agree Patrick, Walsall are woeful at the moment, the team are not gelling and the strikers are below par. I want to know where all the money is? I guess Jeff knows where it is..

Why does the Express & Star repeat Hutchings’s line about a five game unbeaten run? We lost to Bury on penalties when they knocked us out of the FA Trophy. That is a loss, and a defeat on penalties does not preserve an unbeaten run.

Surely that headline should be Angry Walsall Boss Thteatened With Axe?

I was happy with the appointment of Hutchings and backed him even though the end of last season was less than impressive.

Even allowing for the complete lack of resources available to any Walsall manager the truth of the fact is that Hutchings is just NOT making the most of what he’s got. The play is disjointed and ineffective and he is uncapable of altering tactics to suit opposition changes.

The win ratio is no better than Muddle’s was last season. I don’t particularly want yet another change of manager but unless some real improvements are evident very shortly then I can’t see how we can just plod on doing the same things with the same manager.

The manager is partly to blame as he picks from what he has got not a lot and sets out the plans but at the end of the day if you pay peanuts you will get monkeys Bonser sell up b 4 nobody turns up at all.

We have had some poor attacking displays this year, but to be promtping a managerial change already is just daft. Anyone coming in will have the same players, same budget, and same problems. Alex Ferguson would only manage mid table obscurity with the money Hutch has had. Nothing will change with the current board. THAT is where any wanger should be aimed.

agree with everyone but on a brighter note we are only 2 points from a play-off spot so it’s not all doom and gloom. If we can get there then this team which I think still lacks a lot of self belief may do well- that is if we don’t lose anyone in january.
