Berra warns of a defensive barrier ahead

Friday 25th September 2009, 11:29AM BST.

berra fulhamWolves’ man of the moment Christophe Berra believes Mick McCarthy’s strikers must improve by 10 per cent against Sunderland this Sunday – to beat a ‘world class’ goalkeeper.

In-form Berra, who has been Man of the Match in the last two games, knows all about Sunderland keeper Craig Gordon from their time together at Hearts, but Sunday’s clash sees the Scotland internationals on opposite sides for the first time.

Gordon, 26, moved to the Black Cats in August, 2007, for a cool £9million – then a British record for a goalkeeper – while 24-year-old Berra made the switch in January 2009 for £2.3million.

Like Berra, Gordon wasn’t an overnight success, but is now proving his worth and the Wolves man is convinced it’s money well spent.

The defender said: “Everyone knows how good Craig is, but he’s just been unlucky with injuries. At £9million, they paid a lot of money for him, but if you see that boy in training, he pulls off unbelievable saves.

“Hopefully come Sunday, he’ll let a few in for us. We maybe needed that 10 per cent extra against Manchester United.

“We know we’ll have to be on top form to beat them – we’ll have to take our chances and make sure we bury them, because he’s a good keeper.

“He can pull off world-class saves as we’ve seen for Scotland before.”

Bring back Neill Collins right now!

Looking forward to Sunday, we’re playing well and our big hitters getting fitter.
Don’t go for the point it’s a game we can win.

Come on you Wolves all in this together!

The anti Keogh comments are back! Thats the spirit lads lets get behind them! And he can’t head a ball either,,,, strange that as he scored an excellent headed goal against Wigan and won PLENTY of headers on Sunday aswell.

Yea I’d go along with that kiddywolf! Think Dave Edwards makes a difference with his energy in midfield, thought it looked a little flat on Wednesday. Even Milijas was playing the ball square when he came on

I have to pull Christophe up on one thing.
It’s not only the strikers that have to improve 10%,but some help from midfield wouldn’t go amiss.
Try as he might Jarvo’s final ball into the box is not good enough. How many of his crosses this season have resulted in goals?
Karl Henry sometimes plays like his namesake from Dudley,Lenny. Mis-placed passes costing us goals i.e. that ball to Manciene (or was I the only one who saw it?)He lacks the fighting spirit of a Jack Russell, chosing instead to play like a poodle.
Henns is commanding his area better.
Christophe is beating the boo boys & playing as good as anyone at the back.
Wolves need to get the mentality that there are 3 points up for grabs this weekend, not just settling for the one!
I’m not one for sitting back and naming the side, that after all is MM’s job,but I just hope he playes the BEST eleven out there & not just his buddies!

Get off Keoghs back! His goal scoring record isnt bad for a rt sided converted to left sided midfielder.
This versatility could prove a master-stroke as we dont need cover on the bench for these positions.
I hear he’s been excellent in goal too in training!

If Gordon cost 9mil then you’d have to wonder if the Lehman Brothers were involved. Henners is keeper to make the difference on sunday. Nevill Southall, who ate all the pies? Oh yeah, that was me wasn’t it.

Karl Henry has been awesome this season, bad pass at Blackburn apart and is one of many to up his game, with the likes of Keogh, Henners and Berra who now looks extremely fit. Jarvo is the only one who is struggling with playing against better quality full backs. More than pleased with our start, however, this is gonna be one hell of a rollercoaster ride, so hang on and enjoy.Feel we have more than enough strength to stay up, injuries aside.
