Kiely happy to keep on coaching

Veteran Albion goalkeeper Dean Kiely makes sure he gets a decent shift in.

Dean Kiely today confirmed he is happy to carry on coaching Albion’s goalkeepers, even though his role is still not official.

The Baggies veteran has been coaching No 1 Scott Carson and the club’s young shot-stoppers on a stand-in basis since Joe Corrigan retired at the end of last season.

And the 38-year-old says he is happy to keep the temporary duties, but admitted he does not know if or when he will land a permanent coaching job.

“I don’t know and I’m not really over-bothered,” said the Republic of Ireland international. “It’s not like I’ve been unemployed for 10 years and I am looking around for a job.

“I will stand up for my own career against anyone because I am fiercely proud of it. This is a little add-on and I am dipping my toe in.

“I have got some badges and I will take a few more and it’s maybe an avenue I will go down.

“At this moment I am really enjoying doing it.

“I am doing it unofficially and I am appraising myself and asking Scott about stuff.

“But it’s something that I have thought about doing for maybe 10 or 15 years but first and foremost I am a player and I think I am a live and vital member of this team and squad.”

This is what I think we should’ve done with Kevin Phillips.

He’d have been an excellent striking coach IMO and a fantastic role model for players like Bednar, Wood, Moore and Miller to learn from too.

4 – Tez, I stopped reading their posts ages ago cos it’s been like that for ages. We can’t post anything at all on their stories unless it’s pro Dingle!
