Kidderminster captain Chris McPhee believes their trip to York on Saturday is now a must-win game to get Harriers back into the hunt.

The Aggborough men go to KitKat Crescent still smarting from two points dropped after conceding an equaliser in a 1-1 draw at Forest Green on Tuesday night.

It extended the team’s unbeaten run to four games but, with two of those draws, only leaves Mark Yates’ side tenth in the Blue Square Premier table.

Now the skipper has warned York must fall to get Harriers back on track.

McPhee said: “We need a win, nothing less will do. If we had won at Forest Green then maybe a point would have been a good result, but not now.”

Harriers were left completely flat-footed by Sean Rigg’s equaliser on Tuesday night, after taking the lead through McPhee and wasting a host of chances to kill the game off.

That has happened more than once this season, an Achilles heel which the captain is well aware of.

He said: “Maybe mentally we are a bit scared, negativity has crept in and that seems to create mistakes.

“We should easily be in the play-off’s now, with the football we have played along with the application and work rate we have put in.

“But the moments where we are not thinking have cost us. It’s across the team, we have slipped up defensively for goals and then gone and missed chances to put games out of sight.

“We need to strike that happy medium between the two, which means being that bit more ruthless.”

Forest Green manager Dave Hockaday hailed Harriers as the “cleverest” side they had faced after the game on Tuesday night.

It was not much comfort for McPhee, who feels it only illustrates his point.

He said: “Their boss poked his head around the door and we didn’t really want to hear it, but it was a reality check.”

McPhee’s strike on Tuesday was his fourth goal of the season, putting him level at the top of the Harriers scoring charts with Matthew Barnes-Homer and Brian Smikle.

The skipper just wishes it had brought three points.

He said: “It’s nice to get a few of the goals and give the boys a bit of a run for their money, but I would rather have not scored and the team won.”
