Nicholls urged to push on

Chris Hutchings today challenged Alex Nicholls to maintain his electric form after admitting the winger’s confidence is sky high.
The 21-year-old has produced two superb displays against Tranmere and Swindon after replacing the injured Peter Till.
Saddlers will look to extend their five match unbeaten run at Hartlepool on Saturday and Nicholls has been urged to keep up the good work.
“He is a constant threat and he will have to keep doing it,” said boss Hutchings. “That comes with getting used to the role, knowing what I want from him and believing in himself. If he keeps performing like that his confidence will be sky high.
“His general play and work ethic, which he has to put in, has been good as well as his quality.”

Nicholls made one start at Accrington early in the season. He scored a fine goal so what does Hutchings do? He dropped him for the next seven matches – while finding a place for players such as Till and Parkin.
Till and Taundry were injured on Saturday so Hutchings had little choice but to play Nicholls. Has the penny finally dropped in Hutchings brain that Nicholls is a decent player, certainly better than most of those he signed this summer?
