Crews tackle hay fire at farm
Wednesday 23rd September 2009, 11:30AM BST.
Five hundred tonnes of hay caught fire at a farm in South Staffordshire today.
Firefighters tackled the ferocious blaze at Woodhall Farm in Wood Road, Codsall.
It broke out at 2.38am but continued to burn throughout the morning.
Crews from Codsall, Brewood and Penkridge attended the scene.
Firefighters at the scene said the fire would last a couple of days as hay must be allowed to burn out itself. It was the second fire to hit the area in a matter of hours. Residents from the nearby Shrubbery Care Home also in Wood Road had to be evacuated after a small blaze broke out.
The fire occurred in the basement of the three-storey Victorian building at 6pm yesterday. Residents were allowed back into the home at 7pm. It is not yet known how the blaze began.
