Solicitor in baths fight

Friday 18th September 2009, 11:25AM BST.

Campaigners fighting for the future of Coseley baths are hiring a solicitor as they step up their legal bid to block the bulldozer.

The Save Coseley Baths committee has unanimously agreed to pursue court action against Dudley Council. Members hope to secure an injunction preventing the authority from reducing the building to rubble.

Spokesman Brian Guest has held informal talks with lawyers in London about mounting a legal challenge and says he has received “positive feedback”. Their responses have encouraged campaigners to assemble a legal team to look more closely at their case.

Mr Guest, aged 65, of Elmwood Rise, Sedgley, said: “We have heard positive noises about our argument. There was a lack of public consultation about the plans, which were not actually voted on but were revealed as part of the budget.

“Following a meeting of the committee this week we have agreed we will pay for legal advice from solicitors.”
