Students in Wolverhampton who have not received their loans because of a huge backlog are to be given emergency funding.

The city’s university today confirmed students starting university this month will receive support as The Student Finance Company (SFC) battles to process an extra 5,000 applications each day.

Jon Elsmore, dean of students at Wolverhampton, said: “We are giving out student loans subject to eligibility.

“We are particularly supporting first year students.”

Some universities are allowing students to defer rent payments until funding is resolved.

Although no official figures have been given it has been suggested more than 100,000 are still to be completed.
