£300k to put up fencing

Wednesday 16th September 2009, 6:58PM BST.

Installing gates and fencing to secure Cannock Park and the adjoining leisure centre and golf course will cost £300,000, the town’s community forum has been told.

Cannock Chase Council officers are to draw up proposals to deal with anti-social behaviour at the park to be considered as part of the annual budget proposals.

Consultation with local residents has resulted in the majority supporting the closure of the park from dusk to dawn.

Community safety manager Nick Hackney last night outlined measures that could be taken.

Fencing the full 4.5km perimeter of the park and golf course would cost £300,000, but doing only the 1.2km perimeter of the park would be around £86,000.
