Witton Albion 5 Willenhall 1

Monday 14th September 2009, 8:02AM BST.

Willenhall Town FCWillenhall suffered a heavy defeat at one of the favourites for promotion in the UniBond First Division South.

The home side opened the scoring after six minutes. A quick attack saw Steve Foster and Brad Maylett exchange a quick one-two which split the defence, allowing Maylett to cooly slot home from inside the area.

They doubled the lead a minute later. A deft chip into the area from Steve Hall saw the ball bounce through to Mike Moseley, who lobbed over the oncoming Amritjoyt Kler.

On 11 minutes Willenhall went 3-0 down. Kler sprinted out of his area to try and cut out a long ball forward. Unfortunately he slipped over and gifted Maylett a shot at an open goal, which he did not waste.

It could have gotten worse for Willenhall on 16 minutes, but Maylett missed a penalty awarded for a foul by Shaun Griffiths.

Witton made it 4-0 after 36 minutes. A ball from 30 yards out was zipped into the area and, with Kler opting to stay on his line, Hall headed in from close range.

Willenhall started the second half brightly and Rory Curtis had two efforts which went narrowly wide. Witton went 5-0 ahead after 72 minutes. A back-heel by Steve Brodie set Foster clear down the right and his cross bounced perfectly for Maylett to shoot past substitute keeper Steve Jackson.

And town did pull a consolation goal back on 76 minutes.

The ball was cleared to Gavin Saunders and his 30-yard shot hit the bar and fell to Pinnock, who tapped in the rebound.
