Shackell extends loan at Doncaster

Tuesday 1st September 2009, 5:33PM BST.

jasonshackellWolves’ out-of-favour defender Jason Shackell has extended his loan at Doncaster until January.

The 25-year-old defender has played four games at the Keepmoat Stadium with Rovers conceding just three goals in four games, two of which were at Middlesbrough in a 2-0 defeat.

Shackell made his Rovers debut in the first home game of the season, a 1-1 draw against Preston.

Since then, the former Norwich man has only been left out once, forming a solid partnership alongside Adam Lockwood as he was voted Doncaster’s Man of the Match in Saturday’s 2-0 victory over Cardiff.

The £1million signing, who will make his 150th League appearance after the international break, was delighted to get the chance of more regular football.

He said: “The gaffer wanted to extend the loan deal and I’ve enjoyed the past few weeks.

“I’m happy to stay, play some games and help the team while putting in some good performances for myself as well.

“We’ve had a hard run lately and played some good teams. Adam’s been playing well, scored some goals as well and I think that as a team, the performances have been fairly good to be honest and we’ve been unlucky to only have six points on the board.”

Shackell is now looking forward to a trip to Wolves’ arch rivals Albion after the international break.

He said: “It doesn’t get any easier and Reading and West Brom will be difficult places to go.

“But we’ve played some tough teams, we’ve not let ourselves down and put in some good performances.

“There is no reason why we can’t go there and be confident of coming away with something.”

    WHO R WBA???????

This guy was never given a chance at Wolves for some unknown reason. All I hope is that the donkey Berra goes the same way because in my opinion he is only half the player that Shackell is thats for sure.

Good luck to both players (Neill and Jason) I really wish them both every success at there new teams. Neill in particular has always given 100% to the cause and never complained, good luck.

collins took a lot of stick from the fans (me included) and made a lot of mistakes but he certainly chipped in with some vital goals (doncaster away for example). 10 goals in 97 games isn’t a bad ratio from centre half so good luck to him. just a shame he gave away so many penalties early on…
as for shackell… we hardly knew ye. but good luck anyway. hopefully both players will find their level.

    hello

Good luck to Neil Collins! He was a top guy at Wolves and always put 100%. Fans who boo him and give him stick should be ashamed of themselves. Maybe go and watch Sandwell. As for Shackell, he had a couple of games and wasn’t exactly brilliant. Does anyone remember Preston at home! Good luck lad, especially Neil Collins! Bob Wolf, you need to get to the post office mate and draw your benefits!

Neil Collins is a decent, honest pro who will serve his future club(s) well. I wish him all the best and thank him for his efforts. Neil simply wasn’t good enough for Wolves, but that’s not a criticism, it’s just a fact of footballing life.

All the best to Jason Shackell, too. He didn’t play enough games for me to form an opinion, but they loved him at Norwich so he must have something going for him.

Bye, bye, lads. We just needed better quality now we’re a Premier club. That’s the reality; it’s nothing persnal.

Neill Collins gave 100% every single game and having sat through a bunch of overpaid big names who didn’t give a damn about our club throughout the 90′s, 100% effort was all I ever demanded. He isn’t good enough to play Premier League football and well done to MMc for making the tough decision to let one of his “favourites” go. Good luck Neill, I used to love your fist pumping celebrations and running over to us away fans whenever we grabbed a win on the road.

As for Shackell, MMc clearly made a mistake with him, but after finding Foley, Kightly, SEB, Jarvis, Elokobi etc. for a fraction of their true worth, I think we can allow him one error!

I find it rather strange that the one position in the team that MM seems to find dificult is the position that he played himself.
Wolves have bought several central defenders over the last 3 years only to see them struggle in the side.
It’s rather ironic that the side includes at present a defender (Craddock) bought by a previous manager and was on the point of being sold 12 months ago.

    WHO R WBA????

    7. First. He did not know anything about Kightly until he was signed. Thats by MM’s own admission. Secondly. One error. What about Collins,Potter,Gray etc etc and in the recent scenario Berra.

    9. How can you consider Collins, Potter and Gray to be errors? They all did good jobs at particular times for us. As the team has been strengthened it has been right to let them go but that does not make them errors. All three have put in man of the match performances during MM’s reign. However much you might not like him (and I’m baffled as to why some fans hold Mick in such low regard), give the man credit where it’s due. Look what he was left with by Hoddle and recognize that at times a “horses for courses” policy is both necessary and right. Mick has done and is doing an amazing job.
