We are here to stay warns Doyle
Monday 31st August 2009, 9:45AM BST.
Record signing Kevin Doyle completed his first 90 minutes of Premier League action for Wolves oozing confidence that his new club are here to stay in the top flight.
The £6.5million man made his first Premier League start in the 1-1 draw against Hull on Saturday, as the promoted club picked up their fourth point from four games.
Doyle believes that if Mick McCarthy’s men can continue to set the bar high their stay at the highest level could be extended.
He said: “We’ve looked good and if we can keep our confidence up and keep working like we did in this game, we will have no problems.”
It left Wolves registering a point-per-game start to the campaign, as they now take a two-week break from league action before returning to face Blackburn at Ewood Park – scene of their opening day massacre in their previous Premier League campaign six years ago.
But Doyle senses a very different story can be written this time.
He said: “It won’t be just a survival battle – not if we can play like we did against Hull and in the other games we’ve played so far.
“Away to Manchester City, they had chances, but we could have nicked a draw in that game and aainst West Ham here we looked good and we won at Wigan who in the previous game had beaten Villa.
“We had this at Reading the year we finished eighth, one point outside Europe. We had a similar start then as well, three or four points from four games, and we went on from there and we can do the same.
“If we can keep believing we can do it, we will be fine. It was a very good performance.
“Going behind in the first few minutes was a bit of a kick in the stomach, but from that point onwards we looked like the only team that was going to win.
“We got a point, coming from 1-0 down, a good point. We were the better team.”

Think we should be ok this season, but an average of 1 point a game leaves us with 38 points at the end of the season, which would not be enough. We got to get an average of at least 1.5points a game. But the lads are doing ok and can see us winnig a few.

1 – An average of one point a game will be enough to stay up this year. Pompey, Hull, Wigan, Blues, Burnley won’t all get 40 points. I’d take 38 points now, it’ll be enough.

Its up to you Doyley and your striking partners to put the chances away then!
