Sylvan targets Old Trafford return

Monday 31st August 2009, 10:00AM BST.

WOLVES 15 GD 29Wolves striker Sylvan Ebanks-Blake intends to be fully fit to make a Carling Cup date with his old club Manchester United.

The 23-year-old missed the chance to be fit for Saturday’s 1-1 Premier League draw against Hull when he suffered a setback to his hamstring injury, after returning to full training on Thursday.

But by the time of the third round trip to Old Trafford – scheduled for the week commencing September 21 – he should be firing on all cylinders.

The double Golden Boot winner started his career at United, making his senior debut and scored his first goal for them in the competition.

Ebanks-Blake came on as an 85th minute substitute for David Bellion in a 3-0 win at Crewe on 26 October 2004, then scored the final goal in a 4-1 Old Trafford rout of Barnet exactly a year later.

He said: “It’s a great draw for players and fans alike and we’re all looking forward to it.

“We’re all buzzing with the draw and hopefully by the time the game comes around I’ll be fully fit.

“It will be a big task at Old Trafford and it will be a great occasion.”

Manager Mick McCarthy revealed he expected to face United, who Wolves have never faced before in the competition.

He said: “I’d tipped Manchester United away. I’m pleased with it. It’s an exciting cup tie and I’m thrilled by it.”
