Hunt for gang riot biker still going on

Saturday 29th August 2009, 11:30AM BST.

A fugitive Black Country biker involved in a riot at Birmingham Airport is still on the run, two months after fleeing to South Africa.

Mark Larner, aged 47, of Tudor Road, Upper Gornal was in a mass brawl involving two gangs of bikers in January 2008.

Police believe the Hell’s Angel went to South Africa and has still not been found, two months after he was due to be sentenced in June.

He is thought to be seriously ill and to have a large amount of cash. Seven others were given six years in jail.

The men, members of the rival Hell’s Angels and Outlaws motorcycle clubs, were found guilty at Birmingham Crown Court after a six-week trial.

All took part in a fight involving up to 30 people at the airport, armed with knives and other weapons after some flew home on the same flight from Alicante.

After the case Sharon Rowe, West Midlands Police assistant chief constable in operations, said they would try to bring him to justice.

However, if they find him the Crown Prosecution Service would need to approach the South African government if UK authorities wanted to extradite him – which could take months.

Det Ch Insp Richard Baker said: “Enquiries to locate Mark Larner are ongoing.” Anyone who may know his whereabouts should call 0845 1135000.
