Signing ban for Baggies players
Friday 28th August 2009, 10:15AM BST.
West Bromwich Albion players have been banned from signing autographs outside the training ground.
Two signs at the ground of in Birmingham Road Great Barr say that “under no circumstances” will players stop going in or out. It is stressed that the decision was not made by the players.
For years small groups of fans, mainly children, have gathered near the gates hoping for a signature or picture of players.
However, officials have accused fans of selling signed goods for a profit.
Oliver Bhurrut, of Albion said: “The club has taken this step to stop abuse of the players’ goodwill and prevent profiteering from bulk signings of West Bromwich Albion items to sell on websites such as ebay.”
The club said fans can still get autographs at The Hawthorns or organised events. John Homer, of West Bromwich Albion supporters club, said: “I think it a sad day when supporters can’t go to the training ground with their shirts or autograph books.”
